Analysing Fashion/Regional Magazine Covers

Cornwall today appeals to a wide audience and shows them what cornwall has to offer to them, pretty much showing anything about cornwall, and mentions anything to do here. The audience demographic is from A-C1 as its aimed at an audience of rich holiday makers who fall into the higher class boundaries. My magazine will be aimed at a lower dmographic as younger people will fall into a lower catorgy. As its a regional identity magazine its aimed at white ethnicity as that is what the majority of cornwall is.

The cover attracts the audience as its a high quality image which makes the cover look professional, Its an image of the waves breaking at the beach which attracrts the audience as they get a teaser f the famously stunning beaches that cornwall has to offer and find out which beach it is. As the bright high quality image shows that the magazine is trying to appeal to a wide audience and using just one photo makes the magazine look sophisticated and this links to the target audiences needs. this can create an espcapism feel to the magazine feel to the magazine and there is entertainment in these magazines, linking to blumer and katz uses and gratifiction theory (1974) of "an audience consumes texts for a particular reason"

The target audience would be male and female aged 30+ this is shows due to the presentation of the magazine with the main image of having a sandy beach as its a surf issue which will tyalk all about cornwalls surf. This stereotypically would be aimed at surfers aged 16+ and for people who are interested in surfing. This is linking to stanley halls 1904 theory about the storm and stress model which he says that "youth seek excitement in form of drugs, drink and sexual behavior" showing the magazine is not aimed for them contents wise.

The atrget audience of cornwall today recognise cornwall can help guide to what you can do when exploring this country. this makes it an exclusive magaziine as other areas may niot understand some of the contents in the magazine.

The image links to the typography as it uses blue writing matching the sea and blue is used in the image so matches the colour patlette. The rest of the typography stticks with this blue theme of the sea. This appeals to the target audiences interests and shows its aimed at an older target audience. It links back to cornwall which is known for its amazing beaches and shows has nice cornwalls beaches are. The tpography front is kept the same and very simple however it looks proffesional.

The colour palette used makes it look proffesional as they have stuck to the same colours makign the cover link together with the image. The masthead is a plain font which stands out as the background behind it is black. it follows common conventions by taking up 1/8th of the page. with the choice of content, type and images that have been used. I dont think it reaches a hige amount of people as it look abit old and boring which would appeal to people who are retied. this has helped me look at what appeals to audiences.

Vogue is a fashion magazine which is aimed at a target of audience of white british females aged 28+ the audience demopgraphic of this magazine is A-c1 as the audience is of a higher cvlass. the contwent of this magazine includes high end fashion makeup and hair trends and interviews. with models and celebrities which appeal to the audience. my magazine will include these features however i will make it more regional and include local celebrities and everythign about cornwall. mine will also be of a lower audience demographic as younger people fall into a lower catorgry.

The cover appeals to the target audience as its a high quiality shot with 3 point lighting used to shine of the model. it feautures a will knwon singer whos attractive due to the mise-en-scen in which has been used. this makes her appealing to the female audieence who want to look like her which links into laura mulveys theory 1975 "woman are seen as objects of desire to the characters of screen and the spectators in the auditorium" as the audienc will want to seem attarctive to men like this woman. by having the main image being in high quality it makes the magazine look professioanl and everyone would want it. which is what id need to do with my magazine.

The colour palette used on the cover is of mainly yellows and blues which is what the model ius wearting in her outfits they have linked it in with the rest of the cover making it look professional. the blue typogerapahy styands out against the other colours which becomes eye catching for the audience. The masthead uses a sophistication font to suit the audience as its simple but looks neat on the page. in terms of synopsis it works well for the audience as it uses catchy subheading such as "fatal attract" which will stay in your head due to the "fatal" which will make the reader want to rerad on. the layout of the magazine is quite structured which also helps with the sophisticated, this works for a higher class and older audience so I can still make my magazine look professional.

I decided to look at elle magazine cover lastly, elle is aimed at woman aged 16 - 38 who are in the social demographic a-c1

The cover had a high quality mid shot that has been taken in a studio, the image is the centre focus of the cover which has someone who is world known, this will attract customers to buy the magazine she also has her buttons un-done on her shirt revealing her bra which fits in with laura mulveys theory  1975 of "woman are seen as objects of desire." The difference between the clothing in this and vogue is that this used fiery colours which stand out against each other, and vogue used cool and calm colours that let you relax when you look at it. This follows normal conventions by airbrushing the model as the model looks flawless so the target audience will want to look like her and helplessly wish her secrets of staying like that are in the magazine.

The magazine has a colours pallet of red, white and black, which are all primary colours that stand out against each other it also links in with the models clothing. red connotes intensity, and love. and black connotes authority and power, which is popular in fashion because you want to seem smart and in power, hence to why they've chose these colours for the cover.

The typography on this cover has a wide range of different font, sizes and colour. the mast head follows conventions by fitting 1/8th of the page. Font types on the page range from bold, to thin, to big to small. However its all clear and can all attract the target audiences eye. All the typography looks mature and something you would expect too see on this magazine as there isn't any curvy typography which you expect on a pop magazine, and as the typography all looks strong and bold it fits in well with the strong model shot that has been used.
