Impacts Of Technology

"A broader version of conventional literacy, which enables all visual, aural and digital forms, seeking to enable people to become thoughtful producers and interpreters of media" This is  quoted by Peter Fraser and shows the advances within the magazine to follow the audiences needs.

The technology over the past years has become more advanced meaning industries have to keep up with the new technology. Big companies such as IPC media are using more consumer driven product innovation. Now having the use of deal top publishing meaning alongside quark express, brings an increase in independent publishing as it's affordable.

Tablets such as the iPad had a massive impact which has made things more accessible. The magazine 'wired' is a magazine online and can be accessed by an app which is free to download, this shows media consumers don't have to see print media anymore and as it's free this could make it more popular and could effect big magazine companies such as IPC media as they're labels could decrease

Large magazines such as elle are keeping up with this technology by using digital media with an app on tablets for there magazines. Elle is a part of a huge conglomerate so they sell the app instead of Havin it for free so that they can still make a profit from this. You can sign up for subscriptions or get an issue at anytime and let's you know when the newest issues out. This appeals to a target audience who's interested in a digital copy more and especially as it's an international magazine. One of the reasons for the rise in digital media for magazines could be because the consumer wants to also watch and interact with the magazieb

These technologies have led to the internet being a great way to contact an audience. This has been done through magazines such as SPIN, who offers the whole magazine online so there is a choice in who the audience can access it online or as media print. Other magazines such as Vogue and Elle use social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter or the audience to create interactions. This becomes a free advertising strategy for the magazine as if they used twitter they can tweet when the new magazine is out and features of the new issue. I think this has made a growth in the magazine industry in terms of viewing the magazine and advertising it to the audience. This also links to Plunkett's quote "A new generation of UK media power players are ditching the traditional gatekeepers and going straight to their audience via the web."

Having researched about the latest technologies will help me when I create my final product because I can use more digital advertising to keep up with the latest technologies to attract my audience
